Are There Too Many Titles In WWE? Your Thoughts

After the face off between champions at the end of Survivor Series, the rumours were that WWE were heading towards a title unification match at Wrestlemania.

Little did we know that they'd be doing it at the very next pay per view.... well, booking the match at least.

So this weeks question of the week was fairly obvious, we asked:

"Does WWE have too many titles or just enough? Maybe you think they should add more belts?

Would you like to see the Cruiserweight title return? Which belt would you replace it with? How about the Hardcore title?

How many championships would YOU have if you were booking WWE? What would they be?"

And plenty of people had an opinion, in fact the forum thread is STILL going on, so if you have an opinion HEAD OVER HERE!

Here's just a selection of peoples opinions!

"I think they need to have WWE, IC, Tag, Women's (not divas!), Cruiser, Hardcore (I know I'm dreaming), and a new title that I've been high on for like a decade. Picture a National title that changes based on the nationality of the champion. Start it off as the U.S. title, the you can have a huge storyline where a Canadian or Mexican, Swiss Irish, etc. wins it, turns it to the (that country) title claiming that country is the best, then you can have several near top name stars fighting for national supremacy. It would be a perfect way to split the real Americans when time comes. I know they have done something similar before, but they could take it to the next level with that title."

David E Huston II of The Wrestling Newsgroup said:
"Drop the US title and add a title for the smaller guys. Never mind, no title for the smaller guys, just start them going after the IC title. It used to be the title for the workers anyway so go back to that."

Knucks from The Forum thinks that:
"The WWE has an adequate number of belts. They got rid of few belts they didn't need. The cruiser weight (non-focus), the WWE tag titles (not enough teams to justify having to 2 tag belts for each show) and the Hardcore (would be nice for the curtain jerkers). However if they a truly done with the brand split, (meaning that there are no longer separate Raw or SD house shows) then they do have too many titles. You only need a World title, secondary title, women's title and a tag.

As for a unification at WM, I'm glad that it seems that isn't happening and it's going to be at TLC instead. I don't mind them unifying titles if they brand split is over but not at WM. If they did that they would be taking a major SHIT on my favorite PPV the Royal Rumble and the winner.

I would have the same amount of title, well actually I would have 2 tag titles and I would have a true brand split and force my creative team to find storylines and time for the champions of their brands and build up their future contenders so I don't have my IC and US champs getting praised by Cole for holding the belts for x amount of months and they don't got one or two title defense through that many months.

Make the titles SPECIAL again!"

Derek X responded
"God, I hate that. It pisses me off to no end.

But I don't agree with them unifying the World & WWE Titles, whether it's here at TLC or at Wrestlemania. The World Title, I thought, was being held as the top title that the lower-tier main-eventers like Dolph Ziggler and Alberto Del Rio could aspire to. And the WWE Championship would be for the Randy Orton and John Cena's of the WWE. I kinda liked it like that. With only one top title in the company and the newly refreshed emphasis on pushing the big guys, it's going to be hard for the smaller guys to ever ascend into WWE Championship contention again. My fear is that superstars like Daniel Bryan and CM Punk will suffer from not having the World Title around anymore.

I don't think they should add any titles to the company - in fact, I wouldn't hate it if they got rid of the United States Title - but they shouldn't subtract the World Heavyweight Title either."

Mudjesse says:
"I think the number of people on the roster should dictate how many titles they need.
Two world titles work only if there is a brand extension. Since that's no longer the case they need to unify those titles but at least refer to the WWE title as the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. I don't wanna see the WHC go as I like that belt, but it just isn't the same as what it used to be. The IC title needs to be elevated to the point where it is very sought after and make it the stepping stone to the main title. So they should unify the US and IC titles because they are essentially equal, just one of them is an NWA/WCW original second tier belt. One set of tag titles obviously, a women's title and then a mid card title. For guys like Zack Ryder or Tyson Kidd to battle over. I reckon revive the TV belt. A cruiserweight title only works if there is division for it. Doubt that would happen."
