On this Day in Pro Wrestling History

1989 - The first WCW Halloween Havoc Pay-per-view was held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the Civic Center. Here are the results:
- Tom Zenk defeated Mike Rotunda by rolling through a cross bodyblock into a pin.
- The Samoan Swat Team (Samu, Fatu & Samoan Savage) defeated The Midnight Express (Bobby Eaton & Stan Lane) & Steve Williams when Savage pinned Lane after knocking him into manager Jim Cornette during a brawl with everyone fighting at once.
- Tommy Rich defeated The Cuban Assassin with a Thesz Press.
- NWA World Tag Team Champions The Freebirds (Jimmy Garvin & Michael Hayes) defeated The Dynamic Dudes (Shane Douglas & Johnny Ace) when Garvin pinned Douglas. The Dudes were going for a double suplex when Hayes hooked Ace's leg from the outside, and Garvin fell on top of Douglas for the pin. Interesting to note that the Philadelphia crowd loudly supported the heel Freebirds, and booed the babyface Dudes.
- Doom (Butch Reed & Ron Simmons, under masks) defeated Rick & Scott Steiner when Reed pinned Rick after headbutting him with a foreign object in his mask.
- NWA United States Champion Lex Luger defeated Brian Pillman when he caught a flying bodypress and dropped Pillman across the ropes (Hot Shot/Stun Gun) for the pin.
- The Road Warriors defeated The Skyscrapers (Sid Vicious & Dan Spivey) via disqualification when manager Teddy Long interfered.
- Ric Flair & Sting (seconded by Ole Anderson) defeated The Great Muta & Terry Funk (seconded by Gary Hart) in a Thunderdome cage match. The Thunderdome was a cage that covered the ringside area as well as the ring, and had "electrified" fencing at the top to prevent people from leaving. The cage was decorated with "spooky" items, including a rope, which Sting swung around on. Part of the cage actually caught on fire when it was being lowered on the ring, as a fabric decoration brushed against the ring lights (referee Tommy Young patted it out with his bare hands, burning himself). Bruno Sammartino was the guest referee, but the rules stipulated that the match would only end when one of the seconds tossed in the towel. The match ended when Anderson punched Hart, and Hart's towel flew into the ring, ending the bout.

On this Day in Pro Wrestling History... Dos Havocs

In 1990, NWA Halloween Havoc was held in Chicago, Illinois. This was the final NWA Havoc event, with future events being promoted by WCW exclusively

– The Steiner Brothers (Rick & Scott) defeat The Nasty Boys (Brian Knobbs & Jerry Sags) to retain the NWA United States Tag Team Titles
– Doom (Ron Simmons & Butch Reed) fought Ric Flair & Arn Anderson to a double countout to retain the NWA World Tag Team Titles
– Stan Hansen defeats Lex Luger to win the NWA United States Title
– Sting defeats Sid Vicious to retain the NWA World Title. The match featured the first ‘Switcheroo Sting’, where a wrestler impersonating Sting (on the wish of Sting’s opponent) wrestled some of the match

In 1991, WCW Halloween Havoc was held in Chattanooga, Tennessee

– El Gigante, Sting & The Steiner Brothers (Rick & Scott) defeat Abdullah The Butcher, The Diamond Studd, Cactus Jack & Big Van Vader in a Chamber of Horrors Match
– Steve Austin fought Dustin Rhodes to a time-limit draw to retain the WCW Television Title
– Brian Pillman defeats Richard Morton in the final of a tournament to become the first WCW Light Heavyweight Champion
– The Enforcers (Larry Zbyszko & Arn Anderson) defeat The Patriots (Todd Champion & Firebreaker Chip) to retain the WCW World Tag Team Titles
– Lex Luger defeats Ron Simmons in a 2-out-of-3 Falls Match to retain the WCW World Title

– Big Van Vader defeats Nikita Koloff in a No-DQ Match to retain the WCW United States Title 
– Barry Windham & Dustin Rhodes fought Steve Williams & Steve Austin (subbing for the no-showing Terry Gordy) to a time-limit draw to retain the NWA & WCW Tag Team Titles
– Rick Rude defeats Masahiro Chono by DQ with Harley Race & Kensuke Sasaki as special guest referees (Chono retains the NWA World Title)
– Ron Simmons defeats The Barbarian to retain the WCW World Title
– Sting defeats Jake Roberts in a Coal Miner’s Glove Match

On this Day in Pro Wrestling History....Havoc!!

In 1994, WCW Halloween Havoc was held in Detroit, Michigan

– Johnny B Badd fought The Honky Tonk Man to a time-limit draw to retain the WCW Television Title
– Pretty Wonderful (Paul Roma & Paul Orndorff) defeat Stars n Stripes (The Patriot & Marcus     Alexander Bagwell) to win the WCW World Tag Team Titles
– Jim Duggan defeats Steve Austin by DQ to retain the WCW United States Title (Austin still had hair!)
– Hulk Hogan defeats Ric Flair with Mr T as special guest referee in a Career vs Career Match inside a Cage to retain the WCW World Title and force Flair to retire (If only Flair would have stayed retired!)
