1992 - The Rock N' Roll Express defeat The Heavenly Bodies (Stan Lane & Tom Pritchard) to win the Smoky Mountain Wrestling Tag Team Title in Welch, West Virginia. This ended the third reign for Lane & Pritchard, and started the second title run for Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson.

In 2005, WWE Survivor Series was also held in Detroit, Michigan

– Booker T defeats Chris Benoit in the first match of a Best of 7 Series for the vacant WWE United States Title
– Trish Stratus defeats Melina to retain the WWE Womens Title
– Triple H defeats Ric Flair in a Last Man Standing Match
– John Cena defeats Kurt Angle with Daivari as special guest referee to retain the WWE Title
– Theodore Long defeats Eric Bischoff
– Team Smackdown (Batista, Rey Mysterio, JBL, Bobby Lashley & Randy Orton) defeat Team Raw (Shawn Michaels, Kane, The Big Show, Carlito & Chris Masters) in a Survivor Series Match with Orton as the lone survivor. Eddie Guerrero was supposed to be in this match, but sadly died two weeks before, so Orton took his place

Highlights:

• The Miz defeated Kofi Kingston with a counter pin reversal. After the match, Kingston slapped Miz in the face.
• Roman Reigns threw four spears, the final one on Rey Mysterio, to be the sole survivor in the traditional five-on-five elimination match.
• Big E. Langston retained the Intercontinental Championship with a Big Ending on Curtis Axel.
• Team Total Divas defeated Team Not-Total Divas when Natalya Neidhart tapped AJ Lee with the sharpshooter.
• Ryback laid down an open challenge that was met by Mark Henry. Henry won the ensuing match with the World's Strongest Slam.
• John Cena retained the World Heavyweight Championship over Alberto del Rio with the Attitude Adjustment.
• Daniel Bryan and CM Punk defeated Erick Rowan and Luke Harper when Punk hit Harper with the Go 2 Sleep.
• Randy Orton used some timely distraction from Triple H, Stephanie McMahon, and Kane, a RKO, and a punt to defeat The Big Show.
• After the match, Cena came out to pose down with his belt against Orton and his belt, teasing unification.

Knee-Jerk Reaction (Survivor Series 2013)

I've always liked Survivor Series. I'm a big fan of multi-opponent matches like the Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber, etc. That most definitely includes the Traditional Survivor Series Elimination match. It irks me the wrong way that every year, I have to hold my breath in anticipation of if the Survivor Series PPV will be on the schedule and will there be a Traditional Elimination Tag match. Neither is a given and both should be. WWE has removed iconic PPVs from their schedule before (hello, King of the Ring). Given, Survivor Series does lose buys for WWE annually, but only because they don't make it as big of a deal as it should be.

A Year of Belief

This weekend's Survivor Series marks one year of The Shield. Well, sort of. The trio debuted at the 2012 edition of the event and the anniversary for that was actually on Monday. The Survivor Series event feels like the more natural time to mention their first year on the roster though, even if it's not entirely accurate.

Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose had a remarkable first few months on the roster. They started off strong by sharing screen time with John Cena, CM Punk and Ryback. The first two were the company's biggest names and at that point 'The Big Guy' looked like he was going to amount to something.

Survivor Series is tomorrow night so what better time to relive the most memorable and important match in Survivor Series history?
We probably all know this match move for move by now and we all have our theories on whether it was a work or a shoot and whether it was Bret or Vince in the wrong (you can share yours with us here!), but that still doesn't change just how important this match and it's finish are to wrestling history.

On this Day in Pro Wrestling History, Rest in Peace....

1990 - The WWF held the fourth annual Survivor Series pay-per-view at the Civic Center in Hartford, Connecticut. The event saw the debut of The Undertaker, as well as the infamous debut of the Gobbledygooker, played by Hector Guerrero. The results were:
- The Ulitmate Warriors (The Ultimate Warrior, The Legion of Doom (Hawk and Animal), and The Texas Tornado) defeated The Perfect Team (Mr. Perfect and Demolition (Ax, Smash, and Crush)). The Ultimate Warrior was the sole survivor.
- The Million Dollar Team (Ted DiBiase, The Undertaker, The Honky Tonk Man and Greg Valentine) (w/Virgil and Brother Love) defeated The Dream Team (Dusty Rhodes, Koko B. Ware and The Hart Foundation (Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart)). Ted DiBiase was the sole survivor. This was the debut of the Undertaker, using the name "Kane The Undertaker". In the weeks leading up to the show, he was teased as being a "mystery partner" of the Million Dollar Team.
- The Visionaries (Rick Martel, The Warlord, Power and Glory (Hercules and Paul Roma)) defeated The Vipers (Jake Roberts, Jimmy Snuka and The Rockers (Shawn Michaels & Marty Jannetty)). The entire Visionaries team survived.
- The Hulkamaniacs (Hulk Hogan, Jim Duggan, The Big Boss Man and Tugboat) defeated The Natural Disasters (Earthquake, Haku, Dino Bravo and The Barbarian). Hulk Hogan was the sole survivor.
- The Alliance (Nikolai Volkoff, Tito Santana and The Bushwackers (Luke Williams and Butch Miller) defeated The Mercenaries (Sgt. Slaughter, Boris Zhukov and The Orient Express (Sato and Tanaka)). Tito Santana was the sole survivor.
- Hulk Hogan, The Ultimate Warrior and Tito Santana defeated Ted DiBiase, Rick Martel, Warlord, Hercules and Paul Roma. This was a match featuring the survivors from the preceding matches. Hogan and Warrior survived.

WWE have just added an Intercontinental Championship re-match between the new champion, Big E Langston and the former champion, Curtis Axel, to the Survivor Series card.

This now takes the card up to seven matches, the new line-up looks like this:

MSM: 1995 Survivor Series Wild Card Match

When I pitched the idea of turning the Survivor Series into a Lethal Lottery style event on the forum a few days ago, it had completely slipped my mind that WWF had already sort of dabbled with the idea of "odd-bedfellow" Survivor Series teams. But they have, back at the 1995 Survivor Series. It was only a one off match but I still think its a great concept they could run with. And here's that match just for you! At Survivor Series 1995 President Gorilla Monsoon put together a "Wild Card" match up. So sit back and watch as Yokozuna, Owen Hart, Dean Douglas and Razor Ramon team up to take on The British Bulldog, Ahmed Johnson, Psycho Sid and The Heartbreak Kid Shawn Michaels!

On this Day in Pro Wrestling History

2002 - Jeff Jarrett defeats Ron Killings for the NWA World Heavyweight Title in Nashville, Tennessee during an NWA:TNA Pay-per-view. This was the first NWA World Title win for Jarrett in TNA.  Jarrett would go on to hold the title a total of six times.

In 2011, WWE Survivor Series was held in New York City

– Dolph Ziggler defeats John Morrison to retain the WWE United States Title
– Beth Phoenix defeats Eve to retain the WWE Divas Title
– Team Barrett (Wade Barrett, Cody Rhodes, Jack Swagger, Hunico & Dolph Ziggler) defeat Team Orton (Randy Orton, Sheamus, Mason Ryan, Kofi Kingston & Sin Cara) in a Survivor Series Match with Barrett & Rhodes surviving
– The Big Show defeats Mark Henry by DQ (Henry retains the World Heavyweight Title)
– CM Punk defeats Alberto Del Rio to win the WWE Title
– John Cena & The Rock defeat Awesome Truth (The Miz & R-Truth)

– William Regal defeats Hardcore Holly by DQ to retain the WWF European Title
– Ivory defeats Lita to retain the WWF Womens Title

– Kurt Angle defeats The Undertaker to retain the WWF Title
– The Dudley Boyz (Bubba Ray & D-Von) & The Hardy Boyz (Matt & Jeff) defeat Edge & Christian & Right To Censor (Bull Buchanan & The Goodfather) in a Survivor Series Match with Jeff Hardy as the lone survivor
– Steve Austin fought Triple H to a no contest in a No-DQ Match after Austin dropped the car Triple H was in from a forklift

Five on Five Survivor Series Elimination Tag Match Announced, Card So Far

We're a little under a week away from the 27th annual Survivor Series, so that must mean it's time to add the first (and so far only) traditional Elimination Tag Team Match to the card. The Real Americans and The Shield will team up to take on the Usos, The WWE Tag Team Champions Cody & Dustin (Goldust) Rhodes and a "mystery" partner.

– The Dudley Boyz (Bubba Ray & D-Von) defeat The Hardy Boyz (Matt & Jeff) in a Cage Match to unify the WWF & WCW Tag Team Titles
– Test wins an Immunity Battle Royal, last eliminating Billy Gunn

– Shelton Benjamin defeats Christian to retain the WWE Intercontinental Title
– Eddie Guerrero, The Big Show, Rob Van Dam & John Cena defeat Kurt Angle, Carlito, Luther Reigns & Mark Jindrak in a Survivor Series Match with Guerrero, Show & Cena surviving

– Trish Stratus defeats Lita by DQ to retain the WWE Womens Title
– JBL defeats Booker T to retain the WWE Title

New Survivor Series Match Announced

Despite getting everybodies hopes up of a massive six-on-six traditional Survivor Series tag match with the brawl at the end of this weeks Raw, WWE have announced that Daniel Bryan & CM Punk will team up to take on Harper and Rowan of the Wyatts at the Survivor Series.

With .com acknowledging the events tradition it has to be a good sign that WWE are looking at putting on at least one traditional tag match this year... Just my thoughts.
